Allie

This week has been particularly difficult one at the Arguez House.  We almost lost Allie.  She started acting funny Sunday night.  She whimpered anytime she had to bare any weight on her back legs.  We thought it was just an injury and Sam took her in to the vet on Monday.  They were promptly sent home with pain medication and a muscle relaxer.  Tuesday she got progressively worse and so Sam took her back to the vet Tuesday night.  By the time they got to the doctor, Allie had started to hemmorrhaging.  She had bruising on the abdomen, chest, gums and her eyes.  We discovered that her platelets levels were dangerously low and she was put on immunosuppressants in an attempt to keep her body from attacking it's own immune system.  Wednesday she developed more scary symptoms.  She started having involuntary eye movements as a result of increased inercranial pressure from the bleeding.  After ruling out all other causes, they decided that her symptoms were caused by a response to an underlying infection.  They diagnosed her with ITP and sent her home with 5 medications, more than Sam and I combined.  She is super weak and may be permanently blind, but she is home with us now and getting all the love she needs.  I have never been more happy to have all of our family home.
