Texas comes to Washington

Last Thursday we came home from work to find "air-ribs" on our doorstep.  My dad sent us BBQ from the County Line!  Yum!  Makes me feel like I'm home.  Now if only I can figure out how to get ChickFila flown in. =)   Thanks Daddy!

Allie is slowly improving.  She is regaining her sight and her strength.  She is still a bit unstable on her feet but the veterinarian said that this will be the last thing to improve since it was one of her first symptoms.  It's crazy to think about how quickly she went from limping a bit to gravely ill.

Allie

This week has been particularly difficult one at the Arguez House.  We almost lost Allie.  She started acting funny Sunday night.  She whimpered anytime she had to bare any weight on her back legs.  We thought it was just an injury and Sam took her in to the vet on Monday.  They were promptly sent home with pain medication and a muscle relaxer.  Tuesday she got progressively worse and so Sam took her back to the vet Tuesday night.  By the time they got to the doctor, Allie had started to hemmorrhaging.  She had bruising on the abdomen, chest, gums and her eyes.  We discovered that her platelets levels were dangerously low and she was put on immunosuppressants in an attempt to keep her body from attacking it's own immune system.  Wednesday she developed more scary symptoms.  She started having involuntary eye movements as a result of increased inercranial pressure from the bleeding.  After ruling out all other causes, they decided that her symptoms were caused by a response to an underlying infection.  They diagnosed her with ITP and sent her home with 5 medications, more than Sam and I combined.  She is super weak and may be permanently blind, but she is home with us now and getting all the love she needs.  I have never been more happy to have all of our family home.

It's Fall!

It's starting to get colder here and the leaves are turning colors.  We went this weekend with friends of ours (Sam Jones, Mini and Theo) to Jubilee Farms to pick up a pumpkin for Halloween.  It was a gorgeous drive out to Carnation, Washington.  Sam takes picking out a pumpkin very seriously.

Self Discovery

I was recently introduced to "The food you crave" by a friend (thanks Keryn) and I have discovered that
a) I enjoy cooking (gasp) and
b) I'm not terrible at it.

Who knew!?  So I spent my free time getting lost in cooking blogs and thinking about grocery shopping.

The other thing that I have discovered is the wide world of kitchen gadgets, much to my Sam's dismay!  I have already purchased a dehydrator and I'm working on justifying a rice cooker without my success...

My husband has lost his mind

For Sam's 30th birthday, he wanted to do something a little different.  He decided to jump out of a perfectly good plane.  It took a couple months to find some other crazy people to go with him.

HAPPY 30TH SAM!   I'm glad that's over with...right?!
